Auction house Sotheby’s is hosting one of the largest auctions for MGM resorts masterworks collections by the artist Pablo Picasso. The auction will be held in Bellagio Gallery of Fine Arts on October 23 this year following the 3 days Pre-sale exhibitions from October 21-23 in the same venue. MGM’s decision to sell the collection is to restructure it’s public facing art collection and to reshape it’s fine art portfolio, deepening its focus on diversity and inclusion.
Ari Kastrati, MGM Resorts’ chief hospitality officer, said in a statement that this is part of broader strategy to give a greater voice to artists from under-represented communities.

A collection of total eleven works by Picasso is estimated to fetch $100 million through the auction. The auctions will be also live from Las Vegas, which can be accessed through Sotheby’s official website and Sotheby’s App. The live auction will be on October 23, 20:00 EDT. For the bidding, one can register to bid in auction titled “Picasso: Masterworks from the MGM Resorts Fine Art Collection” in Sotheby’s official site.
Furthermore, the auction is accompanied by a four day auction of collection of luxury objects by Sotheby’s which will be on view at MGM’s ARIA resort from October 21-24. The auction will be live from Sotheby’s New York. The objects ranges from Automobiles, Jewelry, Watches, handbags, sneakers and more.
Highlights
The highlights of the auction is Picasso’s Femme au béret rouge-orange, a stunning portrait of one of the artist’s most influential lovers and muse painted in 1938. In addition to that, One of Picasso’s largest paintings from 1969, Homme et enfant and Buste d’homme are in the collection as well.
This auction is named as a celebration of Picasso’s masterworks on his 140th birthday which is Oct 23. The masterworks range from his paintings like Femme au béret to the artist’s works on paper and experiments in ceramics, spanning from 1917 to 1969.
