Dior cruise 2022 show was unveiled live from the Panathenaic Stadium, Athens, Greece on 18th June. The show was from Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director at Dior. The Stadium used to have games in honor of the goddess Athena held in ancient times and is only stadium built entirely of Pentelic marble. The venue was adorned with flags specially created by Italian artist Pietro Ruffo. The remarkable site was further accompanied by live orchestra playing music and performed both by artists like Loanna Gika, Oliver Coates and Arca. Overall, the show was not less than a live musical and nostalgia of the past.

Resembling the ambience of the venue, the designs were also a combination of sports and culture. The fashion designer and creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri was inspired by Giorgio De Chirico, a pioneer of Surrealism who drew on poignant recollections of Greece to draw metaphysical locations frozen within. The Creative Director then
explored the universe of Alexander Iolas, who preserved his near ties to Greece and his home in Athens. The inspiration for Dior Cruise 2022 show was a series of photographs of one of Monsieur Dior’s haute couture lines, taken near the iconic Parthenon in 1951.
The Collection as explained by Dior as “That body dons a series of white suits – jackets and pants – like those worn by Marlene Dietrich, structuring a sartorial lexicon poised between classicism and freedom: the oversized houndstooth is Hellenized; cannage reveals new abstractions. Gold dialogues with white: a hood grafted onto different looks is like punctuation, an engraved inscription. Greek blue becomes both a signature and an homage.” can be clearly seen on the show. The approximately 30 min show was certainly a work of art overall combining
modern and ancient flavors in it.
Involvement of Other Artists and Craftsmen
Maria Grazia Chiuri collaborated and involved various local ateliers and craftsmen to promote these ancestral traditions. Some of them are Aristeidis Tzonevrakis (tailor and embroiderer), Silk Line factory (perpetuates the traditional Greek silk weaving technique), Christiana Soulou (Greek artist), Atelier Tsalavoutas (produces the iconic fisherman’s cap) and Pietro Ruffo (an Italian artist with whom Maria Grazia Chiuri frequently collaborates).
